'How I won a Geosymposium for young researchers in Poland' - the experience of Muhammad Nur Ali Akbar

'I have more opportunities here than I had at home. Being in the center of Europe helps me stay connected with all that happens in my field of interest in this area', told me Muhammad Nur Ali Akbar. Muhammad is currently an MSc Petroleum Geoengineering student at the University of Miskolc and the president of the Indonesian chapter of Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts. Recently, he returned from an international conference in Poland, where he has been awarded for the best oral presentation.

The Hungarian Government announced the policy of Global Opening as part of which the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme was launched in 2013 for foreign students. The Programme is based on intergovernmental contracts on educational affairs signed between the Hungarian government and the partner countries. The aim of the programme is to promote cultural understanding, economic and political relations between Hungary and other countries.

Grant proposals are to be submitted in the sending countries by applicants for pre-selection. Following an evaluation process applications are forwarded to the TEMPUS PUBLIC FOUNDATION, which is the Hungarian coordination unit of the Programme.

Increasing number of SH sending countries

On the below two pictures, it can clearly be seen, that the number of participant countries is growing year by year. This means, that Hungarian higher education institutions have the opportunity to welcome Stipendium Hungaricum students from a wider scale of countries every year.

To see the difference only 1 academic year can make, we created two maps.

The first one shows the sending countries of our students before 2017:

The second map shows these countries after 2017:
